In contrast to her youth where she barely had time for herself, her retirement years give her more than enough time to spend with her family and do the things that she loved most. Aside from cooking meals for the family and tending to her gardens, she is also an avid fan of bingo games. Long-suffering business electricity customers have been campaigning tirelessly for more help from energy providers. The UK government and industry regulator, Ofgem, have recently taken a stand against the ‘big six’ suppliers.

Indeed, the energy giants were publicly criticised in late 2011 by Ofgem’s chief executive, Alistair Buchannan. He spoke out on a number of difficulties facing business energy users.

Buchannan said: “During our investigation into the energy market, businesses told us about a range of problems they were having with energy suppliers and also some energy brokers.

“As we have demonstrated in the domestic market, we will also take a tough line on any suppliers we find systematically breaching rules designed to protect businesses.”

Coupled with this slap on the wrist has been the emergence of smaller business energy suppliers. With their emphasis firmly on serving commercial clientele, these energy companies have seen their stock rise.

So, what have the ‘big six’ done to switch on to their business electricity customers’ needs?

One of the main concerns raised in the past has been the difficulty for business energy customers to switch supplier. Now the major energy providers, including British Gas, promise to handle all of the paperwork and make switching easy.

In addition, a simpler tariff system now offers fixed-price plans for 1, 2 or 3-years. This means that even as prices rise in a volatile market you’re left making payments on the same terms

Large businesses are also discovering the benefits of this renewed approach to customer service from the ‘big six’.

Companies with more than one site and heavy electricity users are being offered bespoke quotes. Rather than agonizing over energy consumption, prices are being made clear and simple.

New legislation and recommendations are enacting positive change in the energy industry. And the UK’s major business electricity suppliers, including British Gas, are responding. Customers are discovering an improved service and a commitment to clear and fair pricing.

      The dark clouds

Yes it’s the month May and summer is still here, then she gave us our first taste big downpour on her first day. The kids and adults alike went out and bathe ecstatically after enduring months of hot weather,  a big respite from the scorching heat and sweaty afternoons. The first rain in the month of May is traditionally called “Agua de Mayo”  (waters of May) and was believed to have healing effect by the old folks. Since it was the first rain after months of dry season, can’t help but think of the pollution and dirt that might come with this rain, sometimes dubbed as acid rain and could bring more harm to health than good.

Gladly though that it cooled the air and lessen the heat, cleaned the streets of dust and plants are again looking healthy and greener. The weather bureau said this is not yet the start of the rainy season and we might still experience more hotter days ahead. But since the start of May, almost everyday we are having rain showers in the late afternoon or early evening, making our nights cool and fresh, thus giving us a goodnight sleep. lol.
